GSM (Grams per Square Meter) - how thick the wrap is
GSM measures how much fabric weighs per square meter—essentially its thickness and density. In woven wraps, it's a key indicator of support, warmth, and feel.
GSM Ranges & What They Mean:
- <180 g/m² – Very thin:
- 180–220 g/m² – Thin:
- 220–260 g/m² – Medium:
- 260–300 g/m² – Thick:
- >300 g/m² – Very thick:
GSM Matters—but Isn't Everything:
- Weave structure influences feel: a light-wrap weave at 260 g/m² can feel thinner than a tightly woven 230 g/m² wrap
- Fiber content (like cotton, linen, silk) also affects drape and texture
- Personal preference plays a big part: some users love the feel of thick, cushy wraps; others prefer slim, cool wraps—even for toddlers
Tips for Choosing a GSM:
- Beginners often find thin–medium wraps (200–260 g/m²) easiest for learning while still offering good support
- Over 300 g/m² may be supportive but can be hard to wrap snugly—better suited for experienced users .
- Lightweight wraps excel in summer, though a loosely woven thick wrap can also remain breathable
GSM is a great starting point to gauge wrap thickness, but always consider weave, fiber, and how you feel carrying your baby. A mid-weight wrap tends to offer the best all-round performance—but ultimately, comfort and confidence matter most.
